THAT FLAMING SPEAR is well handicapped is not open to doubt but he continues to frustrate with some lack-lustre performances and one wonders whether it will be any different tonight at Kempton in the 7.30, a 0-80 7f handicap.
He doesn’t look in love with the game and although running off a mark of 76 tonight, some 33lbs below his last winning mark, it takes a brave person to back him at 18/1. Luke Morris is in the saddle and he was fourth on him three runs ago over course and distance, so perhaps he can cajole the 9yo chestnut son of Lope De Vega into putting his best foot forward.
Laurentia is the yard’s other runner today, also at Kempton in the 8.30 but this is a big drop back in trip to 6f, so the 20/1 shot might find this too sharp under Robert Winston although again, she’s well handicapped.
