SHARP DISTINCTION RUNS A CRACKER AT CHESTER

SHARP DISTINCTION defied the worst possible draw at Chester yesterday to run a cracking race, coming fourth, beaten just 1 1/4 lengths under Marco Ghiani.

The dual-winning 5yo son of Tamayuz was drawn 12 on the wide outside for the two mile contest on Good to Soft ground.

It is very difficult to come from behind at Chester over almost any trip so Marco decided to get him into a position, mid-div fairly early on, athough he still had to come wide on the outside for much of the race.

Marco did have to use some energy early on to get that position but having done so, the horse travelled well throuhout the rest of the contest.  On the final bend, Marco made his move on the outside and in the short home straight he hit the front a furlong out and it looked for all the world as though he’d go on to win the race.

Unfortunately, the eventual winner, Animato had other ideas and he won by 3/4 length.  Unfortunately, in the very closing stages, we lost two places within a few strides to be an eventual fourth.

The handicapper should leave his mark alone (although he might put him up a pound) so it is surely a matter of time before he gets his head in front?
