BEAUHAATHER, owned by Solario Racing (Newmarket) made an encouraging racecourse debut at Pontefract yesterday when sixth of eleven, beaten eight lengths under jockey Frederick Larson.

The 2yo by crack miler Mohaather, has shown ability from day one and has always looked an early type. However, there is plenty of stamina in his pedigree so five furlongs was likely to be on the sharp side.

He is a half-brother to Overactive, who won twice as a 3yo last year over 1m 3 1/2 furlongs and 1m4f furlongs on fast ground.  The second dam, Miss Dashwood, won four times at up to 1m4f while one of her progeny, Dashing Willoughby won four races, including the Group Two Queens Vase at Royal Ascot over 1m6f and the Group Three Henry II Stakes at Sandown over 2 miles.

So, we went to Pontefract not expecting too much and just wanted “Max” to have a nice introduction to racing and we were delighted he had just that.

The ground was officially soft and although he has worked nicely on the grass gallops at Newmarket with cut in the ground, this was always going to be a tough test for an unraced 2yo.

The horse did show signs of greeness in the first part of the race but in the straight, the penny began to drop and he ran on.

Jockey Freddie Larson, who has ridden him at home, was delighted with the horse.  He thought it was a promising run on ground that was too soft over a distance too short and he liked the way the horse stayed on.  Amy Murphy also liked the way he showed a willing attitude to stay on inside the final two furlongs.

We will look for a race over six furlongs next time out but even then, that will probably be a trip too short.  (The 7f races do not start until the summer).

Beauhaather is syndicated in 1/12th shares and there are limited shares available.   If you would like to get involved in a nicely bred, young horse with a future, please call the Racing Office on 01442 977 597 or email info@solarioracing.com for details.   Private viewings on the gallops welcome Monday to Saturday.
