DON’T LOOK DOWN had his official Naming Day yesterday at Harper Lodge Farm and he impressed his owners, the Solario Racing (Tring) sydndicate.

The unraced 3yo grey gelding was already named when bought at Tattersalls Horses in Training Sale last autumn but the owners had the option of renaming him as he has not raced.  However, they unanimously agreed to keep the name.  The Aussie Rules grey is out of Miss Katmandu and is a full-brother to Tenzing Norgay, so the Himilayan references were not lost on the owners, hence Don’t Look Down!  Also, this imposing, good-looking horse is not far off 17 hands high, so his riders are always rather high off the ground!

The morning started with owners toasting Don’t Look Down with a glass or two of champagne before seeing him being prepared for the gallops.  He behaved impeccably for a photo shoot with his adoring public before limbering up in the indoor school.  It was then to the all-weather gallops where he did a warm-up canter before doing a piece of work with dual winner, Incredible Dream.

Ridden by Natalie Byrne, who recently gave him a spin at Kempton, he led his five-year-old stable mate and really strode out.  Dean Ivory was on hand with the owners and both he and Natalie agreed this was the best piece of work he’s done and he had clearly come on for the previous week’s racecourse gallop.

After a very satisfactory morning at the stables, owners adjourned to Saute Grill and Meze Restaurant in St Albans for an a very relaxing lunch.  Many of the owners are new to Solario Racing, so it was a great opportunity for the syndicate owners to get to know each other before they go racing.

Don’t Look Down is due to make his racecourse debut in six to eight weeks time but there are limited shares available.  If you would like to get involved as an owner in a very promising young horse, trained by the south-east counties’ leading trainer, please contact the Racing Office on 01442 877 597 or email info@solarioracing.com.
