BEAUHAATHER is the name of the Solario Racing two-year-old by Mohaather after syndicate owners voted for names prior to the Naming Day held yesterday at Amy Murphy’s Newmarket stables..
Solario Racing has a tradition of its owners putting forward names and then voting on all the suggestions. A thoroughly democratic process, it’s akin to an equine Eurovision Song Contest!
The Naming Day itself began with many of the 1/12th share owners arriving at the historic Southgate Stables for coffee and pastries before going out to see the Mohaather on the gallops. Despite having been recently gelded, he did two canters and was on good terms with himself.
It was then back to the yard to find out whose name had been chosen. The “winning” owner was Jenny Stevenson, whose name, Beauhaather, was a combination of the French word, “Beau” meaning beautiful and “Haather” from the sire, Mohaather. Congratulations to Jenny, whose winning endeavours were rewarded with a bottle of Champagne. Neeedless to say, Amy, the owners and the Racing Manager all toast the newly named with a glass of Champagne.
Owners then had a tradtional photo-shoot with the newly named, who behaved himself. He’s a good-looking youngster and seemed to enjoy posing for the camera!
Solario Racing Naming Days are all about getting the owners together before the horse makes his racecourse debut and a big part of the day is the lunch, courtesy of Solario Racing. Unico, the Italian restaurant in Newmarket High Street, is a favourite haunt for many trainers and jockeys and indeed Solario Racing and as always the food, wine and service were excellent. A big thank you to Stefano, Maria and the team, who as ever, looked after us well.
It was a difficult day for Amy and the staff as the Naming Day was just one day after the terrible news that young Stefano Cherchi had very sadly lost his life, two weeks after a terrible fall in a race in Canberra, Australia. However, Amy had insisted that the day go ahead, as she said it would have been what Stefano would have wanted. As ever, all the staff were welcoming to Solario Racing owners and in a funny sort of way, the day might have given them a little distraction from such a sad, tragic event.
We all toasted Stefano as well as Beauhaather…
