DANCINGINTHEWOODS, aka “Woody”, won at Newmarket’s July Course today, his best win to date, under a fine, cool ride by Joe Fanning to the delight of owners, Solario Racing (Ashridge).
The 4yo son of Garswood was always travelling well throughout the 6f trip despite there only being six runners and the field initially splitting into three groups of two. Ideally, he needs a big field to ensure a good gallop but there was plenty of pace on and jockey, Joe Fanning tucked him behind eventual runner-up Mr Wagyu on the nearside rail.
“Woody” made smooth headway over a furlong out and he took it up inside the distance and stayed on to win a shade comfortably by a neck and half a length. Stablemate, Yimou, was a further 1 1/4 lengths back in fourth.
A stiff track over 6f with the race ridden at a proper gallop is what he needs and that’s exactly what he got today. There have been legitimate reasons for him not quite showing his true form in his last three races but today everything fell right and he won his second race in six starts this year.
He loves Newmarket, both the Rowley Mile, where he won on his debut at 50/1 as a 2yo and the July Course, where he was narrowly touched off last year. In six races at Newmarket, he’s won twice, been second once and fourth twice.
He has now won three times and been in the prize money on 11 occasions out of 15 races. Not bad for a horse who cost just 15,000 guineas as a yearling at Tattersalls in 2018.
Congratulations to trainer, Dean Ivory and Solario Racing (Ashridge) owners who were looked after superbly by the team at Newmarket, particularly Lynda Burton who runs The Runner’s Lounge at both Newmarket tracks.
