SPRING ROMANCE has his first ever run at Chelmsford tonight in the 5.55, a 6f handicap for horses rated 0-75 and his wide draw (12 of 14) and the lack of winners from the yard temper enthusiasm for his chances.
He ran a fine race after seven months off when fourth, beaten just a length, at Lingfield nineteen days ago. In normal circumstances, that would put him in with a great chance and he is on good terms with himself at home. However, the yard has not had a winner in 37 runs and 42 days which is a concern.
Adam Kirby has been booked again and the horse despite being weak in the betting at 11/2, still has an each-way chance. Enthaar has been heavily backed and the 2/1 favourite looks a big danger.
Archdeacon also runs for the yard in the lucky last at 8.25pm, a sixteen-runner handicap over 1m2f and again the stable runner has a wide draw (13 of 16). He’s a lightly-raced horse who has more to give and were it not for the stable’s recent quiet spell, he would be of great interest. Unlike Spring Romance, he is fairly steady in the market and the mount of Tom Marquand does have each-way credentials at 8/1 in a very open handicap.
