VARSOVIAN WINS ON RONNIE SCOTT’S WINDSOR NIGHT

Trophy Presentation after Varsovian’s win

SOLARIO RACING hosted an evening at Windsor races last night on the course’s annual Ronnie Scott’s evening and 50 guests had a fabulous evening, capped by many back Dean Ivory’s Varsovian, easy winner of the six furlong seller.

An executive coach left Berkhamsted at 3.30 for Windsor on another scorching afternoon and there was a diverse mix of racegoers, comprising Solario Racing owners, members from the Berkhamsted Chamber of Commerce and local businesses.

Yours truly went through the evening’s card on the coach with a view to tipping winners and guiding the party for the customary Solario Racing tipping competition.  Last year, they were steered towards five winners on the seven-race card, so there was plenty to live up to!

Harper Lodge Farm had two runners on the night, Varsovian and Harlequin Striker and while Dean was concerned about the quick ground for both, the former had a good chance on the book.

A winner of nine previous races, the 8yo Refuse To Bend gelding had never won on the turf, although he had only raced on grass on four occasions.  Robert Winston gave the 9/4 favourite a confident front-running ride and he hacked by 3 1/2 lengths.

With the Windsor going good to firm, it was likely that the form horses and market leaders would probably prevail and so it proved with all seven favourites obliging on the night and most of the party had at least a winner or two.

After racing, many danced away to the fabulous cool tunes of the Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club band, a very tight eight-piece jazz funk combo.  It was then back to the coach to find out the result of the tipster competition, which was a dead-heat between David Steadman of Travel Time World and solicitor, Will Rayden and they shared the £220 pot.

Thank you to everyone who went as their generous charity contributions raised £420 for the Hospice of St Francis.

Oh and as for the tipster….he managed to give the party six out of seven winners!
