TROPICS’ win at Newmarket today in a Listed contest was another chapter in the rags to riches story of Dean Ivory’s talented 6yo sprinter as he passed £1/4 million in prize money.
Despite the ground being faster than ideal and meeting trouble in running, not once but twice, the class horse in the race won the same Listed race he won a year ago.
Winning rider, Robert Winston said: “The door closed on me in the Dip and it was a good performance to quicken twice from there. He did it well considering the ground was quicker than he would like.”
The star of Harper Lodge Farm, who has now won two Listed races, a Group 3 and been second in the Group One Darley July Cup, holds an entry in the Group One Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock early next month.
The horse started life as a $280,000 dollar foal, went through the ring as a yearling for $700,000 and was sold as an unraced 3yo for just 2,500 guineas at Newmarket’s 2011 Autumn Horses in Training Sale.
