TROPICS had the perfect Royal Ascot pipe opener with an impressive win in the 6f Listed contest at Windsor this evening, breaking the course record into the bargain.
Despite being drawn wide in 14 and a 205 day absence from the track, the Dean Ivory trained 7yo was the best horse in the race on ratings and given a confident ride by Robert Winston, the 7/1 shot powered home comfortably by half a length from Lucky Kristale. He clearly loves it at Windsor as he has now won three times and been second in four starts at the Berkshire track.
The chestnut son of Speightstown has now eight career wins to his name at a strike rate of 33% and this success took him past £360,000 in prize money.
Dean was clearly delighted with the performance and said: “Hopefully we are going to have a lot of fun with Tropics this season as he will now be going to Royal Ascot for the Diamond Jubilee. I thought he was as good as I have ever had him at this time of year.”
