TROPICS has been entered by Dean Ivory for the Group Two Betfred King George Stakes at Glorious Goodwood on Friday 1st August.
The six-times winner who ran a blinder to be second in the July Cup last time out, is being dropped down to the minimum trip for the first time but the Master Of Harper Lodge Farm feels he has plenty of speed.
Dean said on Saturday: “He’s going without the hood this time and I think it will probably sharpen him up if he sees a few more in the race. I just don’t want it to buzz him up.”
He added: “There are not many six furlong races around, and I’m looking ahead to the Prix de I’Abbaye. This is a good opportunity to see if he can cope with five furlongs. He’s got bags of speed but you don’t really know until you try it. I wouldn’t have entered him, though, if I didn’t think he had a good chance.”
The six-year-old son of Speightstown has won on ground ranging from Good to Firm to Good to Soft so is fairly versatile regarding the going which is currently Good.
Regular pilot, Robert Winston has been booked to ride Tropics who on 115 is the top-rated horse among the 22 entries for the King George.
