TARITINO made all at a very warm Redcar yesterday to win the second division of a 7f novice by one and a quarter lengths under Stefano Cherchi to the delight of syndicate owners, Solario Racing (Moulton).
The 2yo was having just his second outing, having been sixth at Lingfield on the all-weather when he showed promise but had trouble in running and was rather green. He looked to have a mountain to climb in overturning the six lengths he finished behind yesteday’s odds-on favourite, Venetian when the pair made their respective debuts at Lingfield.
However, Redcar seemed to suit Taritino much better with its flat, straight seven furlongs. Taritino was drawn 10 and therefore went into the stalls last and despite him having had problems at the gates previously, he was as good as gold yesterday, went in easily and jumped out well and straight into the lead.
The 11/1 shot travelled very well throughout the contest as he made his way down the middle of the track and was a good two to three lengths clear for much of the contest as the favourite was off the bridle and in trouble some way out.
He was never headed and although his pursuers were closing a little inside the distance, Taritino won comfortably with newcomer, Pol Roger second, a length and a quarter behind in second.
Congratulations to all the owners in Solario Racing (Moulton) and well done to David, Matt and Louise who made the long drive up to Redcar. Everyone in the syndicate was thrilled and yours truly’s phone was rather busy during the post-race celebrations!
This was only Solario Racing’s fifth run whilst with Amy Murphy and she was delighted to get off the mark for us. She has an excellent team behind her including Assistant Trainer, Liz Mason and work rider, Eve Williamson who does Taritino. There is no doubt travelling the horse in an air-conditioned horse box to Redcar contributed to the horse’s cool demeanour in the preliminaries.
As for Taritino’s future engagements, we will let him bask in the glory of his victory before planning his next race but he is entered in the Tattesalls October Auction Stakes and the Redcar 2yo Trophy, both on 1st October, so plenty of exciting times lie ahead!
