SPRING ROMANCE STEPPING UP IN CLASS

Spring Romance - favourite at Lingfield

Spring Romance – favourite at Lingfield

SPRING ROMANCE steps up in class tomorrow at Lingfield when one of eight runners in the 0-75 handicap over 6f, due off at 2.50pm and he is the overnight favourite at around 5/2.

Following two great runs this year on Wolverhampton’s Tapeta surface when winning by 3 3/4 lengths off a mark of 46 and coming runner-up in a similar contest off 58, he now tries Lingfield’s polytrack for the first time off a mark of 62.

He has the plum draw in one and Jack Duern, who has ridden him both times this year is again in the saddle.  It is naturally his stiffest task to date since handicapping but hopefully there is more improvement in this lightly raced son of Zebedee and he should run a big race.

Dangers include the well supported Naval Officer and the Hannon-trained Royal Household, having its first run since being gelded.

Jack Duern hops over to Chelmsford for two rides in the evening, Higgys Heartbeat in the 8.45 and Olive Mabel in the last, the 9.15.

The former is the rank outsider and on the face of it is hard to fancy in the 7f handicap but he is the lowest he’s ever been (51) and does sport first time cheek-pieces.  At 25/1, he may be worth a speculative each-way although Yogiyogiyogi is a more likely winner.

The yard has a much better chance of winning with Olive Mabel in the lucky last, another 7f handicap and at 7/2, the daughter of Captain Gerard could go close.  Dangers include the favourite, Geetanjali and Inuk.
