SPRING ROMANCE TURNED OUT FOR A BREAK

SPRING ROMANCE has been a real star this year, winning four of his seven races with two seconds and a fourth to boot.  He’s been on the go for about eight months and was really ready for a well-earned rest, so he was let down after his second last week at Wolverhampton and was turned out on Tuesday.

He is enjoying life with a new addition to the yard, Six Strings, a 4yo 79-rated Requinto gelding and they have paired up really well. Sometimes it takes a while for a horse to get acclimatised to being turned out but “Neville” took to it like a duck to water  (not that there’s much of that around!)  This shows he was really ready for a break.

The two horses have a very large paddock to themselves and there is plenty of shade. The grass is rather bare, as it is almost everywhere in the country but the horses are getting plenty of hay by way of compensation.

The plan is to give Spring Romance a decent break, at least two months, may be longer, depending on the weather and how he is.  Horses’ body language and behaviour say so much and he’ll tell us when he’s ready to come back in to training.

A 25,000 guineas yearling, the son of Zebedee has been a real joy for and credit to his owners, Solario Racing (Berkhamsted).  He has gone up 32lbs since his first win at Wolverhampton on February 7th and he’s now rated 77, having gone up 2lbs after being runner-up last week.  His other three wins include two at Lingfield over 6f and success on the grass at Windsor over 5f.

The form of his races is working out well and indeed, Kodiac Express, whom he beat at Windsor, won again today at Yarmouth, his third victory since he played second fiddle to Spring Romance.

A big thank you to trainer, Dean Ivory and his staff, particularly Neville’s lass, Alex.

We are all looking forward to next year when hopefully a stronger, more mature Spring Romance will step up again and give his owners even more fun and excitement.
