FLAMING SPEAR runs in the lucky last at Ascot today at 5.20pm, a 7f handicap and at the age of 9, the chestnut son of Lope De Vega still has the ability to win races.
Today’s contest is a 0-85 handicap and he’s running off a mark of 81, some 29lbs below his highest rating achieved in October 2018 when he was at his peak.
He’ll appreciate the Good ground and Sophie Ralston takes a valuable 5lbs off his back. The pair were third last time out, beaten just half a length at Kempton over the same trip, so there’s every reason to think he should be competitive today and at 12/1, he looks worth a look each-way in what looks a competitive heat.
