FLAMING SPEAR makes his seasonal reappearance at the age of nine in the 6.45 at Kempton, a mile handicap and he seeks to defy 146 days off the track in his bid to achieve his seventh career win in what will be his 31st start.
A course and distance winner back in November 2018, that was the last time he won. He was then running off a mark of 109. Today, he runs off 84. He’s only had 10 races in the intervening two and a half years and didn’t run badly at Chelmsford on his penulatimate start when third. However, he doesn’t have a good record of going well fresh and will undoubtedly come on for the run. Joey Haynes is reunited with the son of Lope De Vega who is a 14/1 shot in a tricky handicap.
Nicky Baby continues to plough his furrow in low grade handicaps and today has his 45th career start when lining up for a 7f handicap at the Sunbury track under 5lb stable claimer, Sophie Ralston at 8.15pm. The grey is a general 16/1 chance as he attempts a second career win.
