SOLARIO RACING WINS OWN RACE WITH SPRING ROMANCE!

Spring Romance wins at Windsor

Spring Romance wins at Windsor

SOLARIO RACING sponsored the lucky last at Windsor today, The Solario Racing Personal Racing Syndication Handicap and we won with Spring Romance, who was winning his third race in four starts this year!

Previous winner of two races on the all-weather in February and April at Wolverhampton and Lingfield, both over six furlongs, today was the first time “Neville” as he is known in the yard, was back on the grass since running at Windsor 280 days ago and he was being dropped back to five furlongs.  So, while we thought he’d run well, this was a fact-finding mission for this lightly-raced son of Zebedee.

The ground was officially Good to Firm but on the hottest day of the year, which attracted an estimated 12,000 racegoers to Windsor and with the ground drying out all the time, there was concern about the going, expressed by Dean Ivory to owners beforehand.

During the race itself, Spring Romance, weak in the market at 9/2, was in the rear early on and was shaken up two out.  He made headway a furlong from home but even with half a furlong to go, one would have have needed a crystal ball to call him the winner.  Jack gave him a couple of back handers and he took off and running as straight as a gun barrel (unlike some of his rivals) he won going away by three-quarters of a length.

To say the owners, Solario Racing (Berkhamsted) were ecstatic would be an understatement!  Some 30 owners, family and friends were at Windsor to cheer their hero home and they make quite a racket!  It was a very emotional day all round as not only did Solario Racing win its own race but it was groom, Alex Humphreys’ birthday!  (She wouldn’t say how many…and quite rightly so!)

Well done Spring Romance and congratulations to Solario Racing (Berkhamsted), Dean, Jack, Alex and all the team at Harper Lodge Farm.
