Owners on the phone – trying to get answers to the quiz?
SOLARIO RACING held its traditional Owners’ Christmas lunch yesterday and owners came from far and wide to celebrate the festive season with trainer, Dean Ivory.
This year, we went to St Albans’ award-winning restaurant, Freddie’s, in the heart of the historic city and ringing the changes proved a real winner. From Northamptonshire and Nottinghamshire they came but there was no doubting the furthest travellers were Solario Racing’s long-standing supporters from Edinburgh who flew in to Heathrow.
Following a bubbles reception, 17 of us sat down to a wonderful three-course lunch accompanied by fine Portuguese wine, which may, or may not, have helped Owners with the racing quiz!
A variety of after-dinner digestifs preceded a short thank-you speech to Owners and record-breaking trainer, Dean Ivory by yours truly and the results of the quiz were announced.
A bottle of champagne went to “The Retford Mob” for their win in the quiz, although I don’t think Eggheads or Pointless contestants needs lose too much sleep!
After a very enjoyable three and a half hour lunch, some decamped to a nearby hostelry to regale tales of the turf with the Trainer and Racing Manager before winding their way home by taxi and plane.
Solario Racing owners were extremely generous in donating monies to the Harper Lodge Farm Stable Lads’ Christmas Box and the Injured Jockeys’ Fund for Frederik Tylicki.
