SOLARIO RACING is thrilled to have purchased a lovely yearling colt by Royal Ascot Coventry Stakes winner, Buratino for 25 thousand guineas.
The good-looking bay may have been the only Buratino in the sale but he really took the eye, was a good mover and has a very speedy pedigree to boot! Buratino is by the great Exceed And Excel while the dam, Archange, won three races at two in France from 5 to 7 1/2 furlongs and she has produced one winner from two runners, Forefront, who won twice as juvenile over 7f.
Buratino was trained by the UK’s numerically most successful trainer, Mark Johnstone for Godolphin from 2015-2016 and won four races as a juvenile. Top jockeys, Joe Fanning, Kieran Fallon and William Buick all won on the son of Exceed And Excel.
The Yearling Sales at Tattersalls for Books 1 and 2 were buoyant and that spilled over into Book 3 which was a record-breaking sale. The aggregate was 10.59 million guineas (up 44% on 2020) while the average price was 22,491 guineas which was a 40% increase on last year.
Well bred horses with good conformation always go for good money and this year was no exception. The Buratino was my fifth attempt in the ring and on two occasions I was the underbidder. One just has to hold one’s nerve and walk away when the price becomes too high. There is always another horse!
Patience and persistence paid off and after a ding-dong battle with the eventual underbidder, Solario Racing came out on top for this well-bred and correct yearling. Newmarket Equine Hospital vet, Andrew Fogarty, who vetted the horse beforehand said, “Big scopey colt who walks well. I couldn’t fault him.”
The colt has arrived safely at Childwickbury Stud where he will chill out after the sales process for a couple of months. He will be syndicated in 1/2th shares. If you wish to see him at the stud, please call the Racing Office on 01442 877 597 or email info@solarioracing.com to arrange a date.
The colt will have a photo-session next week but in the meantime, Buratino is on show!
