SOARING SPIRITS went one better today at Brighton after his second at the track ten days ago to continue the good recent form of the yard.
The six-year-old son of Tamayuz has plenty of ability but he’s a bit of a monkey and is inclined to keep some of his talent in reserve! Dropping back in trip to 6f helped and Robert Winston took command early on and the pair were always in front thereafter and drew clear in the final furlong to win by 2 1/2 lengths.
This was the horse’s fifth win in 39 starts, not a bad 13% strike rate for a horse who according to his jockey, is “a bit of a character.” He’ll undoubtedly go up for this but hopefully will remain competitive off a few pounds higher.
Nobody looked happier than stable lass, Sara Krantz, who rides the horse at home. Sara has only been with the yard a few weeks but has struck up a good rapport with the “monkey” and her bond with the chestnut gelding has clearly borne dividends.
Soaring Spirits was the stable’s third win from its last five runners and marked the 18th win of the year at a very healthy 15% strike rate.
