Roman Legion- makes his debut in the 2.20 at Brighton
ROMAN LEGION makes his debut tomorrow at Brighton for Solario Racing (Verulamium) and despite the small field of just six runners in the 5f Novice event, he looks up against it.
Four of the field have run before including a winner, the odds-on favourite, Monks Stand. One cannot underestimate previous racecourse experience, so we are not expecting fireworks tomorrow! In addition, Roman Legion is bred to get quite a bit further, so the minimum distance will not play to his strengths.
Having said all that, he has been working well at home and does have some “toe”, so we are hoping he will not be disgraced even if he is green. Robert Winston rides the 16/1 shot and he’ll be able to tell us a lot more after the race. It terms of the likely winner, Zebstar, the second favourite looks interesting each-way at 7/2 as he get 12lbs from Monks Stand.
Robert Winston is also aboard Dean’s other runner, Soaring Spirits in the 5.20, an 11-runner 7f handicap. The 6yo has cascaded down the weights and at some point he’ll go in. He’s a risky proposition but at 10/1, he might be worth an each-way look.
