ROBERT WINSTON is having a great season, largely due to the winners he is riding for his main trainer, Dean Ivory and this has been highlighted in the latest edition of the Racing Post Weekender in the “Under the radar” article by Peter Scargill.
Titled, “Winston forges winning link to give career fresh impetus”, the article, based on an interview with the 36-year-old jockey, looks at the resurgence of his career as a result of moving down south and basing himself at Harper Lodge Farm, Radlett.
Robert is just short of 50 winners for the year and his 18% strike rate is his best ever. In the article, he talks about his renewed desire to travel for rides and his willingness to keep his weight down. He also talks about how the association with Dean Ivory, who has provided the jockey with 228 of his 597 rides over the last two years, began after winning on a couple of spare rides for the Harper Lodge handler on a Saturday back in 2013. The horses were Tropics and Sirius Prospect and since then the association has blossomed.
Looking at the highs and lows of Robert Winston’s career, the full page article is in the edition, Wednesday 10 – Sunday 14 August and is well worth a read.
