HARPER LODGE FARM sent out eleven runners last week and although there were no winners, seven of the eleven were in the prize money.
Jack The Laird and Soaring Spirits were both second and the latter was a shade unlucky at Brighton yesterday when beaten a short head, having been squeezed for room and bumped near the finish. It was still a creditable performance from the sprinter who was chasing a four-timer. On a different day, the result might have been different.
Sirius Prospect posted a welcome return to form with a third at Kempton under John Egan and his turn should not be far away.
There were four fourths including Librisa Breeze in the Group 3 at York won by Jeremy Noseda’s ‘Group One’ filly Nemoralia. This was no bad effort and black type surely awaits this lightly-raced, progressive grey son of Mount Nelson.
Golden Amber ran a very good race at the weights when fourth in a Conditions event at Chelmsford. A daughter of Holy Roman Emperor, the 97-rated 5yo mare has an entry in the Ayr Gold Cup along with Kadrizzi, rated 103. The latter would definitely get in but it is touch and go whether Golden Amber will make the cut.
So, the horses are still running well but naturally a winner would be welcome. Maybe Bobby Vee can follow up his last time out maiden win with success in the seven-runner six furlong handicap at Brighton today (3pm).
There is only five pounds between top and bottom weights, so it is a trappy race. However, Bobby Vee has been supported in the market and is currently 3/1 joint-favourite. Hopefully, Robert Winston gets the rub of the green and can steer him home.
