RED COSSACK after his second at Kempton last week has been given a handicap mark of 75.
A mark in the mid-70s was somewhat inevitable given the form of his second and third runs, both at the Sunbury track. In the former, he was beaten two lengths behind Ninety Minutes, who was subsequently rated 76 while last week, the winner, New Row finished a length to the good and was then rated 72 but we were giving her five pounds.
“Rebel” or “Lenin” as he is known in some quarters will now be turned out for a couple of months with some older horses who will no doubt put him in his place. He is inclined to be, according to his trainer, “a bumptious hooligan”, so hopefully the big boys will teach him some manners.
At 16.1hh, the son of Rebellion has plenty of scope to develop and he’ll come back next year more mature, both physically and mentally.
Whatever the forthcoming winter holds, come rain, shine or snow, The Banbury Syndicate can dream of some exciting days ahead with Red Cossack.
