BOTH yearlings are now being ridden regularly in the indoor school and on Saturday I went up to see the Rebellion colt going through his paces in front of a prospective owner.
It’s always interesting looking at yearlings a couple of months after one’s bought them as even in that short space of time, they can change physically and of course it’s one thing to see them being walked up and down in a sales complex but a very different kettle of fish to seeing them being ridden back home.
Zac Baker, the regular partner of the colt, lunged him for a few minutes before getting on him totally unaided. The colt just stood as good as gold as Zac jumped up, leaned across him and then sat in the saddle. If this was not impressive enough, there was yet more to come.
The chestnut is a very imposing, well put together horse on the ground but being ridden, he really looks the part. Zac walked and trotted him on both reins and he just floated round the indoor school. He has a good stride, really uses himself but the beauty is it all looks so easy. Martin Bosley commmented, “You wouldn’t find a better moving colt than him.”
I have been fortunate to have been associated with some nice horses during recent years, not just Hearts Of Fire but Storm Hawk, Hidden Glory and Desert Recluse. The last three have won 16 races between them and achieved ratings of 84, 88 and 92 respectively.
This colt is as good a mover as any of them. How good he is, time will tell but horses who are athletic and move easily in their slower paces are very often proper horses.
The plan is to keep him at Bowstridge Farm until the end of March, when he will then move to Paul Webber’s near Banbury in Oxfordshire. So, if you wish to come and see for yourself, please call the Racing Office on 01442 877 597 or email us at info@solarioracing.com.
