PORTLAND TRIP COULD SUIT OUTSIDER YIMOU

THERE are not many 5 1/2 furlong handicaps in the racing calendar but the historic Portland Handicap at Doncaster is one of them and the yard’s Yimou is one of 22 runners in today’s renewal at 2.25pm and the trip might just suit him.

The 5yo son of Kodiac has won four times in 16 races, three of them over 6f last year and one this year over 5f.  He would have to improve to win this fiercely competitive end of season sprint handicap but he’s nicely drawn in the middle (13) and the ground, currently Good, is drying out all the time.  George Downing rides the 33/1 shot and it would be great for his career if he could have a big Saturday winner.

Dangers abound and they include Aracebo, Wentworth Falls, Stone Of Destiny and top-weight, Danzeno.
