PLEDGE OF HONOUR runs tonight at Chelmsford (7.50pm) in a 1m2f handicap and is four pounds below his winning mark at Newbury last year, so he could well under Daniel Muscutt.
The horse was well supported last time out over a mile, having been off the track for 88 days but he blew the start and was also hampered early on. However, he stay on well and today the step back up to 1m2f should suit the 5yo who looks tempting each-way at 5/1.
Tropics isn’t getting any younger or quicker but he does like Chelmsford, having won at the track five times in his career. Last time out at the Essex track, he ran wide over the six furlong trip and faded inside the last furlong. Today’s drop back to five in the 6.50 should help and although drawn nine and weak in the market at 33/1, he would have an each-way squeak under Robert Winston, for whom this is his only ride of the night.
In the same race, Amy Murphy runs Thegreatestshowman, who won last time out at Wolverhampton. The 9/2 shot wouldn’t be without a chance under Stefano Cherchi who claims 3lbs. Unlike Tropics, the horse is better drawn in one.
