IT is with great sadness that I have to report that Solario Racing owner, Carolyn Whitaker died on Friday 17 June after a long battle with cancer.

Carolyn loved her horses and she was a member of many syndicates on the flat and over the jumps.  She was a very loyal supporter of Solario Racing and was involved in the beginning with Roman Senate.  Subsequently, she had shares in Chiltern Secret, Amadiva, Red Cossack, King’s Concerto and most recently, Roman Legion while over the jumps, she was a member of Cropredy Lawn Racing.

I first knew Carolyn at Pat Eddery’s ten years ago when she had a quarter share in Spirit Of Adjisa, who won five times on the flat and then went jumping, scoring three times over hurdles for trainer Tim Vaughan, including a Grade One at Punchestown.  One of her best recent horses over the sticks was Vibralto Valtat trained by Paul Nicholls and which has won seven times for Carolyn, including the Grade One Racing Post Henry VIII Novices’ Chase at Sandown.

While getting to the races became much less frequent during recent months, Carolyn still went up to Dean Ivory’s to see her latest acquisitions, Roman Legion and Cappananty Con on the gallops.  She was delighted that her suggestion of Roman Legion won the Owners’ vote and she took great pleasure from her horses even when things became increasingly difficult for her.

Thank you Carolyn for your loyalty and support and may you rest in peace.
