ONE COOL DADDY made his debut last night at Kempton in a mile novice and under a strong ride from stable apprentice, Jack Duern, won by half a length at 14/1.

The 3yo son of (no prizes for guessing the sire….Scat Daddy!)  was drawn very wide in the proverbial car park, 12 of 12 but Jack soon had the horse well placed and the pair were always in the van.  Leading three out, One Cool Daddy kicked for home and after being challenged by previous winner Burrambeet and then headed, the 14/1 shot fought back under a power packed ride by Jack to regain the lead and win by half a length.

A 95,000 guineas purchase at the breeze-ups, One Cool Daddy has always shown ability but he has had his problems and interruptions.  This looks like another nice horse for owners, Michael and Heather Yarrow, who have been very patient.  The victory last night looks to have been in an above average novice event.  It had previous winners, had strength in depth and looks sure to be a race which throws up more than its share of winners.

Harper Lodge Farm has made not only a fabulous start to 2018 but the best ever start to a year, in terms of winners and prize money.  As Doncaster, which heralds the beginning of the turf season on Saturday beckons, the yard has won over £100,000 in prize money and chalked up 12 wins on the board.  The previous best for the first three months of the year was 11 in 2016 but this has been surpassed with a third of the month to go.  The best ever total of wins was 39 in 2013 but even at this early stage of the season, this looks a realistic target to beat!
