WINDSOR opens its doors to the new flat season today and the stable runs four with Nezar looking the most likely to trouble the judge.
In the 4.50, the 8yo chestnut gelding is one of ten lining up for the 0-75 handicap over a mile and although he’s not been in the best of form on the all-weather over the winter and hasn’t won since 2016, he is 10lbs lower than when running last mid-summer. Adam Kirby rides him for the first time and in a trappy contest, if returning to form, he would have an each-way chance at 6/1.
In the opening contest, Swiss Chime (Megan Nichols claims 5lbs) and Vena D’Amore (Jack Duern claims 3lbs) both line up for a 3yo only 5f handicap. The former is weak in the market at 9/1 while the latter, whose best form was a second on soft going last year, is a big outsider at 28/1. Both are hard to fancy although Swiss Chime’s all-weather form would entitle her to some sort of a chance.
Dean runs his first 2yo of the year, Dover Light, in the 2.50, a 5f novice and the already gelded son of Sir Prancealot is a 50/1 shot under Jack Duern. Only one of the ten runners has previous experience and that is the hot favourite, Dorchester Dom, whose previous experience when fourth on his debut in the Brocklesby, should give him a good chance today. However, something has to be placed, so 50/1 could be too big a price for the stable runner.
