NEWBURY HOSPITALITY A HUGE HIT

Happy owners at Newbury

SOLARIO RACING hosted its first Newbury hospitality event yesterday and the day was a great success.

Twenty-one owners and friends wined and dined at three private tables in the Racegoers’ Restaurant in the Grandstand throughout the afternoon and despite an eight-race card, the afternoon flew by.

During a champagne reception, guests were busy honing their tips for the Solario Racing Tipster competition, which proved to be a knife edge humdinger throughout the three course lunch.

It looked a day for favourites or at least those close up in the market and yours truly decided to go that route with his Racing Manager tips for the competition. He did warn guests that trainers (Martin Bosley was in attendance!) are notoriously bad tipsters but that Racing Managers are even worse!

As it happened, four favourites obliged and one second favourite came home in front.  One guest, Jackie Ingham decided to go along with some of the Racing Manager’s tips and she finished second in the compeitition.  Er…yours, rather amazingly, won by two points!

However, a rather embarrassed Racing Manager felt he could not accept the winnings from a competition he had organised, so he gave just over half the winnings to second placed, Jackie and the remainer to the Marie Curie Cancer Care charity.  Jackie, very sportingly donated her winnings to the charity also, so MCCC had a rather profitable afternoon!

It was a fabulous day’s racing with top jockeys, Dettori, Hughes and Fallon all on the score sheet.  Guests were very taken with the Racegoers’ Restaurant in terms of food, service and the wonderful panoramic views from the restaurant balconies.

Solario Racing will be at Newbury again…very soon!
