MERRY CHRISTMAS to all owners, jockeys, trainers and everyone involved in racing!
There are only three days in the year when racing does not take place in Britain and that’s at Christmas with the day before Christmas Eve, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day itself when racecourses are eerily quiet.
Of course for the horses, while they may not be racing, they still need feeding, mucking out and exercising so in many respects it’s business as usual at yards up and down the land. Whatever the weather, many stable staff will be working throughout Christmas, so spare a thought for them as you tuck into your Christmas turkey tomorrow.
They say racing folk are generous and many Owners will be donating presents and money to the lads and lasses who look after their horses throughout the year. Certainly Solario Racing owners have as ever, been generous and this year they raised £850 which went to staff at Harper Lodge Farm and staff at Childwickbury Stud.
A big thank you to Head Lad, Chris Scally and the team who have looked after Dancinginthewoods, Sharp Distinction and Twilight Bay this year. The three Solario Racing syndicate horses have been a credit to the staff.
Equally, the staff at Childwickbury Stud have played their part as they look after the horses when they go their for a break. Earlier this week, some Owners and I went to see Dancinginthewoods who is enjoying his winter holiday at the St Albans-based stud. He was really chilled out, having spent time turned out during the day when the weather’s been suitable but then coming into a huge barn at night. He certainly hadn’t lost his appetite for polos! So, a big thank you to Manager, Max Weston and his team.
On behalf of Solario Racing owners, a special Merry Christmas to stable staff everywhere!
