LIBRISA BREEZE won the Group One Champions Sprint in 2017 and two years on, at the age of seven, the 113-rated grey bids to repeat the feat on Champions Day at Ascot in the opener (1.35pm).
When he won it was soft ground which is the key to him and today it is heavy, which though not necessarily ideal will help him more than some of the others in the 17-runner line up. He struggled last year but bounced back in the Hungerford Stakes at Newbury last time out when second, beaten just half a length. That was a good prep race for today’s assignment and if he handles heavy going, he could give his main dangers, Advertise, One Master and The Tin Man, something to think about.
Joey Haynes rides and Librisa looks good each-way value at 16/1, particularly with those bookmakers paying four places.
Flaming Spear can be a monkey at the start and with heavy conditions to boot, he may struggle in the Balmoral Handicap over a mile at 4.40pm. The Lope De Vega gelding has plenty of ability but a mile in such testing conditions may find out the 33/1 shot. Joey Haynes rides. A more likely winner may be Lord North, Amedeo Modigliani or Clon Coulis.
