“JERRY” AND “WOODY” THRIVING AT CHILDWICKBURY!

Sharp Distinction

Sharp Distinction

JERRY” and “Woody,” aka Sharp Distinction and Dancinginthewoods, are positively thriving at Childwickbury Stud, as some Owners and I discovered when we went up to the famous, historic 19th century stud farm just outside St Albans this morning.

Three-year-old Sharp Distinction, who had a fine start to his racing career as a 2yo when coming sixth, third and second in three starts, has only been at the stud just under a fortnight but already he is looking like a horse who is benefitting from spending time outside a racing environment and just being a horse.

The son of Tamayuz was a good sized individual as a yearling and was never likely to set the world alight as a 2yo as he’d always need time to grow and develop. So his three runs last autumn in which he was placed twice were even the more meritorious.

After his third race, it was apparent he was looking quite leggy and needed to fill into his frame.  Already, there are signs he’s beginning to fill out. The plan is for him to stay at the stud for at least another month.

Dancingingthewoods is a very different horse in many respects.  The 5yo three-times winner, who was only out of the prize money once out of nine races last year, has been on holiday for nearly four months.  He’s a much smaller horse than Sharp Distinction, has more speed and a turn of foot.

When I last saw him at the stud before Christmas, he was chilled out and a little battle-scarred from having been picked upon by his stable companion!  This time around, he was more on his toes, full of himself and saying “I’m ready to go back into training.”  He goes back to Harper Lodge Farm early next week.

“Jerry” and “Woody,” two very different animals but two proven racehorses who are thriving and should have a lot more to give in 2022!
