IVORY’S TROPICS SECOND FAVOURITE FOR STEWARDS’ CUP

Dean Ivory – trains Stewards’ Cup entry Tropics

DEAN IVORY’S improving sprinter, Tropics has been installed as second favourite for the Stewards’ Cup at Goodwood next month at a top priced 14/1 (Bet 365).  The 5yo son of Speighstown has won two of his last three and has climbed the ratings from an opening mark of 83 last November to a current career high of 100.  The chestnut gelding has been a rags to riches story of sorts!

He only cost £2,500 guineas at Tattersalls Horses in Training Sale in October 2011 but has won just under £30,000 to date. Dean not only trains Tropics but owns him as well and what a shrewd purchase he has turned out to be. Certainly, 2,500 guineas is bargain basement compared with the lofty prices he commanded as a youngster.  As a foal, he went through the ring for $280,000 while as a yearling, he went under the hammer for $700,000!

Very lightly raced, he has won three and only been out of the frame once in eight starts, so there’s a good chance there could be more improvement to come.
