DEAN IVORY’S Tagula Night won his ninth career victory yesterday at Kempton to give the 9yo a wonderful 15% strike rate.

What an incredibly consistent servant TN has been to connections over the last seven years.  He first won at Windsor as a 3yo, a handicap on only his fourth start off a mark of 74.  The trip was 6f and he has been successful at that distance six times, the other three victories being over the minimum trip. His highest rating has been 91, back in 2011 but yesterday he was running off 83 under Pat Cosgrave and given that he won by two lengths, the handicapper is bound to hike him up to near his highest ever mark!

One curious stat.  How did the horse, tipped up by the Racing Post and a projected 8/1 shot, go off at 16/1?  A question indeed!  The exclusive Solario Racing Owners Area section did comment: “Well drawn in 4, he has a sporting each-way chance at 14/1.”

In the run up to Royal Ascot, any trainer wants to have his string in good order and Dean seems to be hitting form at the right time.  Tagula Night was his third winner this month, giving the yard a 16% strike rate.
