INNOVATE, “stand-in” for the sidelined Sugar Train, makes her debut tomorrow at Doncaster for Cropredy Lawn Racing, in the first division of the two mile mares’ bumper, due off at 3.50pm.
The 4yo French-bred filly is one of 12 runners and has pleased Paul in her preparation. One can never beat previous racecourse experience but the 14/1 shot (a 33/1 prediction according to the RP) will hopefully acquit herself well under Mark Quinlan. Obvious dangers include the Nicky Henderson-trained, favourite, Kayf Grace and Queen Odessa, from the Harry Fry yard.
In the second division at 4.25pm, Paul runs Viking Queen, again ridden by Mark Quinlan. Third on her debut, she should hopefully improve and may reward each-way backers at around 11/1.
The Cropredy Lawn handler’s third runner of the day is Koolala, at Uttoxeter (3.30pm) in a mares’ novice handicap chase over 2m 6 1/2 furlongs. This three-times winner is having just her second race over the larger obstacles and although a mare with ability, the heavy ground is unknown territory for the 15/2 shot, ridden for the first time by James Best. She has handled soft and is a mare Paul has always regarded highly. Might be worth a interest?
Dean Ivory runs two at Lingfield, Soaring Spirits (Renato Souza), in a 12-runner 6f handicap at 1.40 and Dor’s Law (Jimmy Quinn), in a 7-runner maiden over 7f. The former is very well handicapped and has each-way credentials but the latter faces a very tough task against the odds-on Bear Faced.
