Tropics – trying to win over 5f
TROPICS needs no introduction as a favourite at Harper Lodge Farm but this £1/2 million prize money earner has never won over five furlongs and that is what he attempts to do at Chelmsford tonight at 7pm.
It is a tight looking handicap with some familiar names such as Boom The Groom who will be one of Tropics’ main rivals tonight. The 10 son of Speightstown is really a 6f specialist and in his prime, he was dual runner-up in the Darley July Cup. However, his recent form figures read well: 4214 – 14 and he has won at the course.
At 5/1, Tropics has an each-way squeak under Robert Winston but the old man of the party may have to give way to younger rivals over this trip and indeed top weight, Boom The Groom could be one of those.
