HUNTINGDON HOSPITALITY A BIG HIT WITH OWNERS

HUNTINGDON RACECOURSE was the setting for Solario Racing’s latest hospitality event yesterday and with fine sunny weather and good jumping ground, a great day was had by all.

Originally, we were due to go to Huntingdon for their Family Day on Sunday 4 March, a fixture we have done for the last two years.  Unfortunately, the snow, ice and freezing temperatures meant the fixture was abandoned, so we re-arranged it for yesterday.

Due to illness, some owners were unable to make it but those that did, enjoyed a great afternoon with an eight race card and superb hospitality with our own private table in The Peterborough Chase Restaurant.

We started off with a champagne reception (of course!) and then settled down to the serious business of the Solario Racing tipster competition.  Yours truly gave his selections, to be heeded or ignored, depending on how much owners felt the Racing Manager knew about National Hunt racing!

The three-course lunch was first class and the wine, red, white or rosé, flowed!  It may have helped the owners’ betting as there were plenty of winners backed throughout the afternoon.

Huntingdon Racecourse kindly asked Solario Racing to judge the Best Turned Out in the last two races and present the trophies.  Eight-year-old Rylee White, great-grandson of Solario Racing owner, Mick White, chose the best turned out for the seven-runner 2 mile 1/2 furlong handicap chase and he chose a lovely looking and very well turned-out grey, Brother Bennett.

It was a good day for the White family as Mick White led the tipster competition from the off and although it was nip and tuck with fellow Spring Romance owner, Paul Shay, Mick landed the spoils a shade comfortably in the end.

Thank you to Huntingdon Racecourse for a wonderful day and to Solario Racing Owners who raised money for The Hospice of St Francis, Berkhamsted.

P.S. The Racing Manager was third in the tipster competition…so he’ll stick to the flat!
