SOLARIO RACING’S hospitality day at Huntingdon yesterday was another enjoyable occasion despite the rather indifferent weather! Fortunately, the Peterborough Chase Restaurant had views of the paddock and the whole of the racecourse, so there was no need to brave the rather inhospitable elements. A champagne reception began proceedings during which owners studiously made their selections for the customary tipping competition. There were over 20 non-runners due to the ground changing to soft, heavy in places but that did not prevent some very competitive racing and some tight finishes, even with the small fields. Guests enjoyed an à la carte three course lunch with wine and later on, afternoon cream tea. The feature race, the Cambridgeshire National Handicap Chase was won in thrilling style by Venetia Williams’ Rocky Bender who relished the conditions while there was a very taking performance from Tolethorpe to win the bumper impressively on his debut for trainer, Harry Whittington. As for the tipster competition, modesty dictates the winner cannot be revealed! As an addendum, one should note it doesn’t happen very often!
