HARLEQUIN STRIKER is the stable’s sole runner today when lining up in the 10-runner lucky last at Windsor, a mile handicap and although well handicapped, he has to defy a 110-day absence from the track.
The track passes a precautionary inspection this morning but nevertheless the Berkshire track’s first meeting of the year will be on Heavy going. “Striker” has form on soft going and the course and distance winner will hopefully cope with very testing conditions today. He’s well handicapped, having won at Windsor off 78 and is today on a mark of 72 but he doesn’t have a history of going well fresh, so a certain amount of guesswork is needed today.
At 12/1, with the yard’s horses in good form and with Jack Duern in the plate, he might be worth a second look but it’s a trappy contest with several course and distance runners in opposition, one of whom, Spanish History, looks a big threat.
