GWAFA, Paul Webber’s rising star, has been rated 140 after his second win over hurdles and is now top of the world at Cropedy Lawn.
Following a 15-length stroll at Fakenham, the half-brother to former stable star, Australia Day, won his second novice hurdle by a comfortable six lengths at Huntingdon last week. He beat John Ferguson’s odds-on favourite, Blue Rambler, despite carrying a seven pound penalty and so his handicap mark is no real surprise.
Aintree must now be on the agenda for the 5yo grey son of Tamayuz. The question is whether Gwafa goes the handicap route or for the Top Novices’ Hurdle, won last year by Cyrus Darius and upgraded for the first time this year to a Grade One? A mark of 140 is certainly strong enough to warrant consideration….watch this space!
