DANCINGINTHEWOODS goes into unchartered territory today when one of nine runners in the 0-85 handicap over 6f at Leicester (7.05pm) as he has never raced on ground softer than Good and today’s going is Good To Soft and if there’s further rain, it may turn Soft.
His two wins (the second over today’s course and distance) and a closed second at Newmarket have all come on Good to Firm and he’s a very good actioned horse. However, Dean thinks he’s quite versatile and is hoping he’ll cope with the different going. If he does, he’ll run a big race as he’s in terrific form at home. It’s a very open contest and Able Kane, who was second at Leicester when “Woody” won reopposes on 2lbs better terms for being beaten half a length. In theory, there shouldn’t be much between them.
Little Boy Blue also reopposes but is worse off at the weights so other main dangers include the well backed Spanish Star and Global Esteem. Woody, ridden by Tom Marquand, is a general 5/1 shot and if he handles the going (admittedly a big “if”) he should run well.
By contrast Stake Acclaim will love the Soft (Heavy In Places) going at Windsor for the 6.20, a 5f handicap. A winner over course and distance under today’s rider, Callum Hutchinson two weeks ago, he’s better off at the weights if Callum Hutchinson’s full claim is taken into account, so he should go well at around 10/3. The Daley Express and Show Me A Sunset are principal dangers.
