FOREFRONT, the half-brother to Solario Racing’s exciting yearling, the Buratino colt, won his third race in just ten starts when hacking up at Deauville on the polytrack last Friday.
One of 13 runners who lined up for the Prix Des Chaumieres, a 3yo handicap over 6 1/2 furlongs and ridden by Stephane Pasquier, the son of Estidkhkaar who was sent off a 10/1 shot, won by two and a half lengths, beating the favourite, Fanciful Tale. The runner-up, ridden by Mickael Barzalona, is owned by Godolphin and cost 1 million euros as a yearling. Forefront by contrast, was not sold at 3,500 euros as a yearling! However, he has a 30% wins to runs strike rate and has won over £40k.
He has now once on the turf (on good to soft) and twice on the polytrack, having previously won at Chantilly at the backend of his two-year-old career. A versatile sprinter, he could have more improvement in him yet.
On the day that Solario Racing purchased the yearling half-brother to Forefront, the 3yo was at Deauville and was unplaced, although only beaten three and three-quarter lengths. Certainly, the latest win will have done no harm to the credentials of the Buratino yearling!
Buratino, trained by Mark Johnston, was the joint 3rd top-rated 2yo colt in Europe in 2015. He is by the world’s greatest sire of 2yos, Exceed And Excel and is from the family of Danehill Dancer. The yearling’s dam, Archange won three times at two and was placed six times.
“A big scopey individual with an athletic walk and plenty of substance. I couldn’t fault him on his vetting.” So said, Newmarket Equine Hospital vet, Andrew Fogarty, who vetted him for Solario Racing before he went into the sales ring.
The horse is being syndicated in 1/12th shares for two seasons and will be in training with Gr 1 winning-trainer, Amy Murphy in Newmarket.
