DEAN IVORY and his wife Lesley hosted a fabulous Owners’ Christmas Lunch at Harper Lodge Farm yesterday.
Some 70 owners and friends turned up late morning to see the horses in their stables and then they all adjourned to a marquee for drinks and a wonderful three-course buffet lunch. Live background music was provided by professional singer, Emma Russell and for yours truly it was a wonderful opportunity to catch up with some of Dean’s owners whom I’d previously known when working at Peter Harris’ Tring stables over ten years ago. Former Grand National winning jockey Graham Thorner was also present and it was fascinating to hear Graham regale tales about Tropics and some of the other horses he has bought over the years.
Dean has enjoyed a record season with 39 wins this calendar year, prize money over £360,000 and a first Group winner, courtesy of Tropics. No surprise then, that there was a really good buzz about the place and everyone was in fine festive spirit.
