DANCINGINTHEWOODS, an impressive winner of a Newmarket novice 15 days ago steps up in Class today for the £60,000 Woodcote Stakes at Epsom (2pm) and is fifth favourite at 16/1 of seven runners.

The trip is 6f and already that could be looking too short but the son of Garswood deserves to take a chance in a race in which virtually all of the field are open to bags of improvement.  The most likely winner is Godolphin’s Pinatubo or Mark Johnston’s Misty Grey but it’s not beyond the realms of possibility of “Woody” outrunning his price under Joey Haynes.

Joey is aboard Villette and Red Cossack at Chelmsford this evening in the 7.10 and 9.10 respectively.  The former is a 6/1 shot in a six-runner 1m2f handicap and would have a squeak while Red Cossack, a 16/1 shot in a 7f handicap needs everything to go right for him to trouble the judge.

The most likely winner for the yard is Archdeacon in the 6.40 at Chelmsford, another 1m2f handicap and he could justify favouritism at 11/4 under Kieran O’Neill who was second on him last time out.
