CHELMSFORD TO ECLIPSE ROYAL ASCOT

Tropics - course and distance winner at Chelmsford

Tropics – course and distance winner at Chelmsford

THE STABLE runs two at Royal Ascot today, Flaming Spear and Eirene but it may be at Chelmsford where the yard has better chances of a winner, courtesy of Tropics and Lucymai.

The 10-y-o veteran sprinter, Tropics, bids to repeat a win in a 5f 0-105 handicap, a week later than he did but this time with a 6lb penalty.  He looks up to the task and the 7/2 shot should go close under Jack Duern at 7.10pm.

Jack also rides Lucymai, another trading at 7/2, in the 7.40, a 7f fillies’ Listed contest and the four-times course and distance winner is the best in at the weights, so should run a big race, despite her wide draw.

Eljaddaaf and Higgy’s Heartbeat are 20/1 and 12/1 in the 8.40 and 9.10 at Chelmsford.  The latter has become disappointing but the former is capable of going well at a big price if everythings falls right.

At Royal Ascot, the ground is probably too firm for both Flaming Spear out to 40/1 in the Royal Hunt Cup (5pm) and will definitely not suit Eirene who is 80/1 in the Jersey Stakes (5.35pm).  Robert Winston rides both horses.
