PRINCE CASPIAN, one of Dean Ivory’s top sprinters, landed the £100,000 Epsom “Dash” yesterday for the second time in three years.
Two years ago, he was winning for trainer, Tony Carroll but transferred to the Dean Ivory yard last year and this was the second valuable win for the Radlett handler, having won a big handicap at York last August.
On his day, the son of Dylan Thomas is a top horse and he has a very healthy 21% strike rate with 12 wins from 56 career starts. Yesterday, he was winning off a career high mark of 104, seven pounds higher than when first winning the “Dash” two years ago.
Given a great ride from Robert Winston, the horse took advantage of his high draw to grab the rail and taking it up two out, the pair were all out to prevail by a short head from the runner-up, Kimberella, at odds of 11/1.
Dean’s successful day was not done yet as at Lingfield in rather different fayre, a middle distance 0-55 handicap, he had first and second courtesy of Catherina and Spinning Rose and so recorded a 251/1 across the card double.
