BLOOM’S BIG GUNS AIMING FOR ASCOT GLORY

Librisa Breeze – defends Champions Sprint crown at Ascot

DEAN IVORY runs both of Tony Bloom’s big guns, Librisa Breeze and Flaming Spear, at today’s Ascot Champions Day meeting, the most valuable day in British racing.

Librisa attempts back-to-back victories in the Champions Sprint at 2pm and at last he will get his ground.  Despite not having won this season, he has been lightly raced and he showed he still retains plenty of ability when a good fourth in the Group One Maurice De Gheest at Deauville in August.  At 8/1, he looks great each-way value and though his style of running (often held up) means he’ll need the gaps to appear, his turn of foot is a powerful weapon and he should run a big race under regular pilot Robert Winston.  The Tin Man and Tasleet look two of the main dangers.

The same jockey is back on board Flaming Spear in the mile Balmoral Handicap at 4.30pm and the 6yo chestnut son of Lope De Vega also has a great turn of foot.  The step up in trip to a mile should suit and despite being weak in the market, 12/1 looks too big a price and he has solid each-way claims in a very competitive race.
