Best Lover
COINCIDENCE bets always hit the news but unfortunately, today Best Lover did not read the St Valentine’s Day script!
Royal Wedding won on Friday 29 April, 2011. You remember the significance?
Second in line to the throne, Prince William married Kate Middleton at Westminster Abbey, there was a Bank Holiday to mark the royal occasion and the Nick Gifford-trained appropriately named chaser, Royal Wedding won the Crabbie’s Alcoholic Ginger Beer Handicap Chase.
Unfortunately today, Best Lover, one of seven runners in the 3.25 at Ayr, despite having won his last three races, did not step up to the romantic plate. Far from it!
The 10-y-o James Ewart-trained chaser unseated six out. The Racing Post remarked:…”it was too far out to determine whether he would have won, or if his stamina for the trip was going to last out.”
Er…having unseated, I think the stamina issue was maybe a little irrelevant…!
